- Cafes to work from in Siquijor (Wifi spots)
Kape de Guyo in the afternoon As always, I’ll be covering San Juan , the heart of Siquijor’s tourist scene. Since Eden , our upcoming Coworking Space in Siquijor , isn’t open yet ( we need your help for that—wink wink! 😉 ), you’ll need to find other places to work from. I’ve been living and working remotely on the island for a while now, and trust me , finding good work spots wasn’t easy at first. But after some trial and error, I’ve narrowed it down to FOUR solid options that I can personally recommend: Fig Cafe Fig Cafe in a regular week day afternoon A place with very comfortable chairs , no loud music , and good food —one of my favorite spots to work from! The AC is just right , the WiFi is usually solid , and most importantly… they have a generator ⚡—so even when the power goes out, your flow doesn’t! 💻💪 🚨 One downside. …Or should I say two ? 😅 The space is tiny —like, "7 people and we’re full" tiny. Cozy, yes. Spacious, not quite. It gets busy with regular café-goers enjoying coffee and meals ☕🥪—which brings us to... The noise. They whip up amazing shakes and food—blender and all. So yeah, it can get blendy . Add to that the café chit-chat, and you might need headphones to stay in the zone. So, great spot—but maybe not if you’re on a Zoom call or trying to write the next great novel. 😄 📍 Opening Hours: 6.30 AM – 8 PM Internet Speed: 🚗 Getting there: Fig Cafe is about 2-minute drive from our soon-to-exist Eden Coworking Space. Kape de Guyod Kape de Guyod on a Thursday afternoon A spacious, modern, and quiet café right on Siquijor’s main road. It’s well-located, has good internet , and isn’t usually crowded. No loud music, no distractions—just a chill workspace. 🚨 One downside: Kape de Guyod has a generator BUT it only keeps the elctricity on and NOT the wifi . So during brownouts, the internet goes down. And to make things worse, phone service isn’t great in that area, meaning you can’t always rely on mobile data as a backup. ( Not everything is perfect, right? ) 📍 Opening Hours: 8 AM – 9 PM Internet Speed: Kape de Guyod internet speed ☕ What to expect: Great coffee, tasty breakfast, and a Digital Nomad-friendly vibe. The staff is used to people working from here, and you’re always welcome. And... the AC is always on (Thank God) 🚗 Getting there: Kape de Guyod is about a 10-minute drive from our soon-to-exist Eden Coworking Space. Janin's Café Janin's Cafe in San Juan Another spacious, cozy place to work from, and it’s right across the street from Kape de Guyod —so if one is too crowded, just hop over to the other! Janin's Cafe ! Internet Speed Janin's Cafe Internet Speed ☕ What to expect: Coffee (of course) and the most delicious cakes in Siquijor. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, this place is a must. Janin's Cafe in San Juan, from the inside 📍 Opening Hours: 6:30 AM – 8 PM ( Super early opening is a big plus! ) 🚗 Getting there: Careful, there are two Janin's Cafe in Siquijor island. One by the port, in Siquijor Town, and another one in San Juan. The one I tested and Im recommending is the one in San Juan. Again, about a 10-minute drive from Eden (when it opens 😉 ). Final thoughts? Both places are solid work options in San Juan, but neither is perfect. If having backup power during brownouts is a dealbreaker, you might need a Plan C. ( Or… you could help us get Eden up and running! 😉) Cafe Infinite (24/7) Cafe Infinite on a Monday 8pm This café just opened in mid-March 2025 , and here I am, testing it out one week after its grand opening . But what really makes this place stand out? It’s the first 24/7 café on the island. Could this be the ultimate Digital Nomad spot in Siquijor? Let’s find out. First: Impressions ✅ Spacious – Plenty of seating options, from comfy chairs to solid workspaces. ✅ Great café menu – Lots of coffee choices to fuel your work sessions. ✅ Open all the time – Seriously, finally , a 24/7 spot! Cafe Infinite, Siquijor 🚨 Downsides: ❌ No AC – On hot days, be ready to sweat through your Zoom calls. ❌ Noise factor – The café has no walls and sits right by Siquijor’s main road , so expect occasional scooter beeps and street noise. ❌ Loud music – They play it a bit too loud , but the good news? Just ask, and they’ll turn it down instantly. ❌ No generator, so when electricity goes out, so does your work. 📍 Opening Hours: 24/7 (FINALLYYYY a place 24/7) Internet Speed: Internet Speed at Cafe Infinite ☕ What to expect: A modern café , open anytime you need it , with a solid workspace vibe. But expect some noise, no AC, and internet that’s not the fastest . 🚗 Getting there: Cafe Infinite is about a 5-minute drive from our soon-to-exist Eden Coworking Space. Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀
- Power Outages - Siquijor Digital Nomad’s Worst Nightmare
FINALLY, the electricity is back If you haven't heard about the power outages on this island, well... let me tell you: IT. IS. BAD. It ’s 7:20 a.m. , and I’m writing this blog post fueled by frustration and a terrible night of sleep . Last night, the electricity went off at least five times . Each time, it stayed off for 40 minutes to an hour . 👉 No electricity. 👉 No AC. 👉 And worst of all... NO INTERNET. Thank Hypnos I was sleeping and not in the middle of a call with my manager and seven C-level executives. "Sorry, team, I just disappeared into the abyss. Blame Siquijor." Me after having a terrible night of sleep, without electricity in the island. (Without AC) I went through this back in 2023, when I first tried to be a Digital Nomad in Siquijor . I was still figuring things out. And guess what? Not much has changed. Planned vs. “Surprise!” Power Outages ⚡️ Some outages are announced in advance on the main Electric Cooperative’s Facebook page. Others? Surprise, surprise. You’re just living your life when BAM—darkness. How often do Power Outages happen in Siquijor? Way more often than we’d like. 😅 On average, I expect at least one power outage per week. But Siquijor likes to keep things spicy. 🌶️ Sometimes, I get lucky and go two or even three weeks without a single issue. Other times… well, let's just say five outages in a single week is not unheard of. Predicting it? Almost impossible. 🚨 How to Survive Siquijor’s Electricity Roulette 🎲 Until I open Siquijor’s first-ever Coworking Space (🙏 manifesting that Eden becomes real soon), here’s how you can hack the system: ✅ Find an Airbnb (NOT a hotel—hotel WiFi is just... no) with a generator . Super common on the island. ✅ Check phone reception before booking. If you don’t have a generator, at least make sure you can hotspot your way through the blackout. Tears of Happiness in my first ever trip as a Digital Nomad Electrictity is a main problem in this island and Im working really hard to have a coworking space . A blessed place, protected from power outages and bad internet connection. No coinscidence our Coworking Space will be called Eden . Hopefully soon I can get this place opened. Until then… fingers crossed! 🤞 Siquijor Digital Nomad's community help Another lifesaving solution? Stick together! 🤝 When the power goes out, find your fellow Digital Nomads. If one of them is camped out in a place with a generator and solid internet , then guess what? We all RUN there. 🏃♂️💨 And hey, you can always contact me! Even though Eden isn’t open yet, I’d be more than happy to help you find a place to work from. Or heck, just come work from my place! Because in Siquijor, surviving power outages is a team sport. 😆⚡️ Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀
- Laundry in Siquijor - The reality of Adult life
If you’re a Digital Nomad , one of the first things you need to map out in your new “home” (aka the place you now pretend to live) is: ✅ Where to do your laundry ✅ How long it takes to be clean and ready for you ✅ How much it costs And after more than two months living in Siquijor, I realise this post is long overdue —kind of like some of my laundry batches. 😅 As usual, I’ll focus on San Juan , the main tourist hub of Siquijor and the future home of our Eden Coworking Space in Siquijor ( yes, subtle plug, wink wink ). Laundry time! 🏝️ Laundry in Siquijor—Where Can You Find It? Everywhere. Seriously. Drive along the main road in San Juan and you’ll see small signs saying “LAUNDRY” every few meters. Laundry shops in Siquijor pop up like magic—except instead of granting you three wishes, they take your dirty socks and return them smelling like a tropical dream. Most of these places are small family-run businesses , operating straight out of their homes. And let me tell you—the service is top-notch . Clothes come back clean, fresh, and folded (and sometimes even ironed, if you’re lucky). 💰 How Much Does Laundry Cost in Siquijor? As of 2025 , the standard price for a 3kg batch is between 170 and 250 pesos . 💡 No more, no less. If someone charges you 500 pesos, either they’re scamming you or they’re secretly adding a VIP spa treatment to your underwear. Honestly? It’s cheap. And considering how much I sweat under the 30°C sun , I’d happily pay double just to smell like a decent human being again. Another Laundry shop in Siquijor, San Juan 🌟 My Favorite Laundry Spot in Siquijor There’s this tiny, almost hidden laundry shop that barely has a sign . But once a week, you’ll find me there—either dropping off a new batch of clothes or picking up a fresh one , inhaling deeply like a laundry addict. Why? My favourite laundry shop in Siquijor, San Juan Because the clothes smell REALLY good after the wash. I mean, REALLY good. Like, “I want to hug myself all day” good. After sweating all day from riding my scooter, snorkeling, hiking , and generally existing in the tropics , clean clothes feel like paradise . How to get my favourite Laundry Shop So, fellow nomads, next time you land in Siquijor, don’t worry about laundry —just follow the signs, enjoy the fresh scents, and keep living your island dream. 🌴✨ Got Questions? - Supermarkets in Siquijor, because we Digital Nomads are "locals"
IslandDeli in Siquijor, is a bit expensive but has high quality products If you’re like me, you don’t travel to a beautiful place as a Digital Nomad just for a week and then leave. No— you stay longer, soak in the vibe, and truly experience life there. And while eating out is great, doing it every single day ? Not the best move— for your wallet or your health. Sometimes, I just miss cooking my own food, having a chilled time at home , and sharing a meal with other Digital Nomads . So, when that craving for home-cooked food hits, where do you go for groceries in Siquijor? First, Meet the ‘Sari-Sari’ A classic Sari Sari shop in the Philippines. (Sari Sari means Variety of Everything) If you’re new to the Philippines, you’ll quickly get familiar with Sari-Sari stores —tiny neighborhood shops selling a little bit of everything. Need shampoo? Tomato sauce? Snacks? A quick beer? They’ve got you covered. They’re everywhere. And yes, Siquijor is no exception. But here’s the thing: they’re small and limited. If you need to do a proper grocery run , you’ll want to check out the two biggest stores in San Juan (where our coworking space will be located). 🥇 Quick Silver – The Biggest & Cheapest Grocery in San Juan The new QuickSilver building in Siquijor If you need the most options at the best prices , Quick Silver is your go-to. They literally just moved (March 12, 2025) to a bigger location because the old one was too small for their growing stock. Here, you’ll find everything —from conditioner and light bulbs to fresh produce and cigarettes. And in my experience, it’s the cheapest grocery store in San Juan. 📍 How to Get There Quick Silver is super close to our coworking space —just a 2-minute drive , and you’re there. Oh, and yes—you’re totally welcome to bring your groceries back and cook at our coworking space. We’ve got you covered! 🥈 Island Deli – More Premium, Open Late IslanDeli in Siquijor A solid second option is Island Deli . It’s smaller and pricier than Quick Silver, but they stock higher-quality products —perfect if you’re planning a fancy dinner with your fellow Digital Nomads . Another big plus? They stay open late—until 10 PM daily. So if you need something last-minute, this is where you go. 📍 How to Get There Island Deli isn’t as close to our coworking space as Quick Silver, but still—just a 5-minute drive , and you’re there. Help yourself! Final Thoughts Whether you’re stocking up for the week, planning a dinner party, or just craving a taste of home , Siquijor’s got you covered. Now, time to grab some groceries and start cooking! 🍳🔥 Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀
- Time to get fit. Let's talk about GYMs in Siquijor
This is the Gym's second floor. As always, I’m focusing on San Juan —because let’s be real, it’s the best area for Digital Nomads in Siquijor. If you’re like me, finding a good gym is a must when staying anywhere long-term. I haven’t explored every gym in San Juan, but I found two that have everything I need: Fitness Club Golden Gorilla Fitness Club 📍 How to Get to Fitness Club 🚗 From our coworking space, it's just a 5-minute drive —super convenient! 💡 Note: This gym is part of Siquijor Sunset Glamping Village . If you need more info, check out [ their Facebook page ] —they’re always online. 🏋️♂️ Is It a Digital Nomad Gym? From time to time, I meet other Digital Nomads here, but it’s not really a hub . It’s just a solid gym where you can get your workout in without distractions. 🏢 Gym Layout & Atmosphere Is It Busy? Not really! Even after 5 PM on weekdays , when most gyms get packed, it’s still not crowded. That’s the charm of Siquijor —it’s never as busy as bigger islands like Boracay or Siargao . The gym's first floor. 🕒 Opening Hours 📅 Every day: 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM 👥 There’s always someone around to assist you if needed. 💰 Gym Prices (As of Feb 2025) 💵 Daily Rate: ₱150 💵 Monthly Rate: ₱2,500 ❌ No Weekly Rate Available For a small island, I’d say these prices are very affordable compared to other gyms in the Philippines. Golden Gorilla Golden Gorilla Gym entrance in Siquijor 📍 How to Get to Golden Gorilla 🚗 From our coworking space, it's just a 7-minute drive —easy peasy lemon squeezy. 🏋️♂️ Is It a Digital Nomad Gym? This Gym is quite new (opened at the end of 2024, early 2025) so maybe for this reason I haven't yet seen any Digital Nomad working out there. But I have hopes that more and more digital nomads will come. 🏢 Gym Layout & Atmosphere Is It Busy? Nothing here in Siquijor is busy. This gym is no different than that. 🕒 Opening Hours 📅 Every day: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM 👥 There’s always someone around to assist you if needed. 💰 Gym Prices (As of Feb 2025) 💵 Daily Rate: ₱150 💵 Monthly Rate: ₱1,800 (This gym is a bit cheaper than Fitness Club. Maybe because its new and they are trying to get known in the island) ❌ No Weekly Rate Available Final Thoughts If you need a reliable, well-equipped gym in San Juan , Fitness Club is a great option. It’s never too busy, has solid equipment , and is conveniently located. Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀
- Everything you need to know about Tourist Visa in Philippines in 2025. Including how to extend it
Me getting ready to go to Dumaguete Entering the Philippines: Simple & Easy Getting into the Philippines is a breeze! Just download the official government app to register for your free Tourist Visa —quick, easy, and hassle-free. In most cases, this visa lets you stay for 30 days , but there are exceptions— Brazilians, for example, get 59 days. Extending Your Tourist Visa Loving it here and want to stay longer? Good news—you can extend your visa for up to 3 years! Yes, you read that right— THREE YEARS as a tourist. The catch? You’ll need to visit the Immigration Office every two months to renew your stay (and again, in some rare exception like Brazilians, you can only need to go back to the office every 3 months). But hey, for paradise, it’s a small price to pay! Me at Immigration Office in Dumaguete How to extend your Visa in Siquijor Extending your visa while in Siquijor is a bit of a mission —you’ll have to travel to another island! But fear not —you can totally do this. 💪 The closest Bureau of Immigration (BOI) office is in Dumaguete , because… well, there isn’t one in Siquijor. So, be ready to spend a full day traveling just for your visa extension. I know—it sucks. But hey, being a Digital Nomad in Siquijor is not always a paradise. 😉 📍 Where to Go The Bureau of Immigration office in Dumaguete is your destination. 🚪 What to Expect – The entrance is a bit weird (you’ll see what I mean when you get there), but don’t worry—you’re in the right place. This is the entrance of the Bureau. Its weird and small. 🚢 How to Get There (From Siquijor to Dumaguete) Take a Boat from Siquijor to Dumaguete Ferries run daily , and you can check schedules or book tickets online here: 👉 12Go Asia From Dumaguete Port to the Immigration Office Walk – It’s a 20-minute walk from the port. Tricycle – If you don’t feel like walking, grab a tricycle and let them take you there. Once you are in, you will follow this corridor to get to the Bureau ⏰ What Time Should You Go? The Bureau of Immigration opens at 8:00 AM , and timing is EVERYTHING if you want to avoid an overnight stay in Dumaguete. ✅ Arrive Before 10:00 AM 🔹 Spend 20 minutes filling out forms and paying the fee.🔹 You’ll be asked to return at 2:00 PM to pick up your visa-extended passport .🔹 Done in one day! 🎉 ❌ Arrive After 10:00 AM There is a high chance that your visa won’t be ready until the next day , meaning you’ll have to spend a night in Dumaguete . You don’t want that —trust me! 💰 How Much Will It Cost? Here’s a breakdown of the costs: Expense Cost (PHP) 🚢 Boat to Dumaguete (Round trip) 1,600 🛂 First-Time Visa Extension (+30 days on top of the initial 30 days you already stayed in the country) 3,000 🛂 Visa Extension beyond the initial (60 days) 9,000 💡 Not counting: food in Dumaguete, transport to Siquijor port, or any extra expenses. This is the sign at the entrance that will show you that you are in the right place 📝 What to Bring? ✔️ Your passport (obviously!) ✔️ Cash for the visa extension (ATMs are nearby, but best to bring cash just in case) ✔️ Your hotel address (they’ll ask for it) Pro Tip: 📌 Tick the "EXPRESS" box when filling out your form—this ensures same-day processing ! 💬 Got questions? Don’t stress—the staff at the Bureau of Immigration are super friendly and always happy to help. Me being a Digital Nomad in the Canary Island Final Thoughts Yes, it’s a bit of a hassle, but if you plan it right, you can get in and out in one day . Set that alarm, catch the early ferry, and you’ll have your visa extension sorted before sunset. 🌅 Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀

- Cash, Card, Currency - What work and what doesn't in Siquijor
I have never hold so much cash in my life before Ahh, the Philippines. The first time I arrived, I had no idea what I was walking into. Why the shock? Because 99% of transactions here are in CASH. Yes… that old piece of paper you probably haven’t used in years. I didn’t even have a wallet when I first landed! How Do You Get Cash in Siquijor? ATM in Siquijor You’ll find plenty of ATMs around the island where you can withdraw money from your international bank account. But there’s a catch… 💰 Max withdrawal per transaction: 10,000 pesos (~160 euros) 💸 ATM fee per withdrawal: 300 pesos (~5 euros) If you need to withdraw more, you’ll have to repeat the process and pay the fee again. Yeah, not ideal. An Alternative: GCash G-cash in Siquijor Some businesses accept GCash , the Philippines' version of a mobile wallet. It allows you to transfer money instantly. How do you use it? I’ve found Remitly to be the best way. It has: ✔️ No transaction fees ✔️ A fair exchange rate So you can transfer money from your Remitly account, straight to their Gcash account, instantly. I know is sounds a bit complicated, but once you try it you will see that is actually quick and easy. So my recommendation is For large expenses like: 🏠 Accommodation 🏍️ Scooter rental 🍽️ Other large payments I just transfer money via Remitly . For everyday expenses, I still withdraw cash from ATMs , despite the 300-peso fee. Another Option: Western Union Pawnshop that works as Western Union in Siquijor A friend of mine prefers Western Union , where you can withdraw larger amounts with lower fees . The downside? 🚩 There aren’t many Western Union locations on the island. Which means withdrawing a big sum and carrying it around —or hiding it somewhere in your hotel. And we all know the risks of that. I don't know about you, but most of the Digital Nomads I know don't like to be walking around with ridiculous amount of cash in their pockets. What about our Coworking Space in Siquijor? We'll follow the island rules— cash and GCash accepted. But I’m working on something better. I’m trying to find a way for you to simply tap your international card and pay hassle-free. I can’t promise it yet… but I’m trying. 😉 Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀
- Nightlife in Siquijor: What to Expect
JJ's night in Siquijor As always, when I talk about Siquijor, I’m mainly referring to San Juan —the island’s main tourist hub. Yes, there is nightlife here, but don’t expect wild parties every night like in Siargao. Siquijor’s nightlife is more laid-back , with a chill island vibe rather than a non-stop rave scene. There are plenty of great restaurants, and new ones pop up every month. But when it comes to dancing and live music, there’s only ONE big party on the island —and that’s JJ’s Backpackers. JJ’s Backpackers: The Heart of Siquijor’s Nightlife Every Friday and Saturday , everyone on the island heads to JJ’s to enjoy live music until 2 AM , dancing with their feet in the sand, and—of course— drinking, drinking, drinking. 🍻 JJs is super big... and BUSY The party starts early, but things really get going around 10 PM . Even after the live music stops at 2 AM, the party keeps going with a DJ until 4 AM . Entrance Fee: 20 pesos (basically nothing). Drink Prices: A beer costs 100 pesos . A 1-liter rum & coke tower is 500 pesos —so yeah, getting hammered is pretty budget-friendly. 😆 Where is JJ’s? JJ’s is just a 5-minute drive from our coworking space in Siquijor—super close and easy to get to. What About the Rest of the Week? The other nights in Siquijor are way more relaxed . There are a few bars here and there, but nothing compares to JJ’s on the weekends . Here are a couple of popular mid-week hangouts : The Bridge – Yes, it’s literally a bridge where people gather to drink. Simple, local, and fun. RumBar – Offers live music and drinking games , but it’s still on the chill side compared to JJ’s. Wakanda - Bachata and Latin Nights every Monday. I went there some times and its my favourite night there. Wakanda Siquijor - Latin night So if you’re looking for a full-blown party , Friday and Saturday at JJ’s are the nights to go all in . The rest of the week? It’s all about casual drinks, good company, and island vibes. Got Questions? Drop them below! I’ll try to reply the same day. 🚀

Digiral Nomad hair getting out of control Finding a hair salon in Siquijor has been an adventure. Siquijor is a mid-sized island, and most salons and barbers are in Siquijor town.
